Doing a follow up on this. I was able to have the person providing the response to not send these special characters, instead send regular hyphen and non-curly quotes. It is working great. It is working great with SSL too.

How can I translate special characters like mdash (little extended hyphen), left curly quotes, right curly quotes etc. into EBCDIC?  Once converted will these by displayable in green screen?
