I guess you did not read my statement well enough. The internal
pointer (counter, whatever) for managing character string pointers
apparently has 16 BITS (two bytes, to make it clear).
Oh, I see what you're saying. You're talking about the work variables
in the RPG runtime routines and the length portion of VARYING strings.
I agree that this should be fixed.
It was the word "pointer" that threw me off..
My fault... I'll try to be more clear about what I want to express
(which is always useful, isn't it?)
