Allocations are made from the heap, not automatic storage.Removing a variable from a procedure would reduce the amount of automatic storage in use, so that makes perfect sense.

Just out of interest - how big was the variable? Off the top of my head I can't think of any reason why this would happen, unless HTTPAPI is allocating large amounts of memory for buffers etc. and your procedure storage juts took the job over the top.
