Handshake errors are almost always caused by missing or too-low of a security certificate.
Did the test you did changing PROD certificates?  Did you test the API functionality in Mimix?  
Compare the certificate stores in prod and Mimix.
I think the standard now is beyond SSL3.0; I am seeing mostly SHA2 certificate requirements.

This weekend we performed an Mimix swap to disaster recovery iSeries, then swapped Back to main production iseries, now all of the interfaces using HTTP Api are failing
