I just talked to IBM Technical Support and the PTF that will support
SHA2 in V6R1 is SI42238
Yes I have to upgrade ASAP to V7R2 but in the mean time if I applied
that PTF IBM said that it should work

I don't see anything that indicates that this is available on IBM i 6.1
-- and that release is no longer supported by IBM. I know this can be
enabled on 7.1, it requires updates to PTFs and setting some system
values. On 7.2, it's not necesary to set the system values, just
having
the latest PTFs will work.
You could ask IBM if this is also available for 6.1... but I don't see
any docs for that. So I wouldn't be surprised if you have to update.
