Since curl was mentioned in the op, I'm going to guess (based on man curl on Ubuntu): -u, --user <user:password;options>

That's not a valid URL.  The first part looks like a URL, but the second
part looks like a parameter to a Unix command?!

Presumably, you are trying to make HTTPAPI do the same thing as another
tool, and you just decided to put the command line options for this
other tool into the URL?

Can you explain what -u does?  If so, we can probably tell you how to do
the same thing in HTTPAPI.  (But the syntax will be different...)
