RE: Certificates Using HTTPAPI

I am replying to this older message to try to keep the thread together. If you reply to the Digest, try to remember to change the Subject line to be "RE: Certificates Using HTTPAPI" so that the responses can be found. IMO, the traffic on this board is quite low and digest mode is not really needed.

Disclaimer - I have no current programs that require their own certificates. I have done this once in the past as an academic exercise. So, please someone who has it working in production, chime in.

Like the instructions say that I got for putting together a greenhouse..."Read the instructions all the way through before attempting assembly".

EXAMPLE3 has the steps detailed under ADVANCED USAGE. You can use the steps there as a checklist. If you read through there, you will see that you need to create a "Client Application". Scott suggests it should be your company name (ACMEINC), underscore, HTTPAPI, underscore and then the name of your program (EXAMPLE3). So, substitute in your company name and your program and "remember this value, because you'll have to tell HTTPAPI this string". When I did this, I wondered if I could name it by the client certificate - I don't remember that I tried that. I know I got it to work just following the instructions I was given at the time.

It is then explained that https_init uses this value to associate the DCM profile with your particular program. So, the "Client application" in DCM is the name of the app_id in EXAMPLE3. They must match. https_init tells your program to use this special application profile. If it has a client certificate associated with it (which I think is what you need), it will use that certificate instead of the default certificate.

Let us know how it goes.

The general procedure is detailed in EXAMPLE3. You create a profile that has a cert and associate that with your program.
