Glad to see you got your message through to the mailing list at last :-)
The error "500 Internal Server Error" is used as a generic code to indicate that "some error was detected by the server program". It's generic -- can be used for any sort of error.
The output from the server program (which is the file you are saving to /Temp/M0023456.xml) may explain more about what the error actually is.
Another place to check is the debug/trace log that HTTPAPI can output if you specify http_debug(*on) in your program.
