I'm rather new to this technology as well, so I may not completely understand your request, but see if http://www.scottklement.com/archives/ftpapi/201110/msg00003.html helps you.  I'm using WSDL2RPG and HTTPAPI to access a web service.  It wasn't extremely difficult and was the first web service I've used.
