RE: Need some examples to start

Here is an good starter article.

http://systeminetwork.com/article/rpg-consuming-web-services-httpapi-and-soapui

If you don't have a subscription, it is well worth it for Scott, Carsten, and all the rest and the accumulated knowledge that is on the site.

Assuming you are using the BETA software, do the examples in order. Scott basically provides a tutorial on using the tool and on using web services. Some of the current BETA examples are skeletons for future programs, but just keep going.

For example, when you get to EXAMPLE9 and EXAMPLE10, you will find things very similar to what you asked for. In particular, EXAMPLE10 - Twitter - will send data to twitter.com and parse the XML reply. EXAMPLE12 is another good example. EXAMPLE14 isn't "simple" but a very common request to find tracking status of package from UPS. EXAMPLE16 is about as simple XML in, XML out as there is.

Check out example programs EXAMPLE1-EXAMPLE20. It's a good place to start.
Keep in mind HTTPAPI is NOT an XML web services utility. It's a HTTP
communications data exchange tool that lets you write programs that use web
services. You'll need to learn a lot about web services (ie: HTTP headers,
SOAP, XML) outside the constructs of HTTPAPI.

Hi, I am very new of using iseries to consume a web service. I have been
looking through some of the examples from the HTTPAPI downloads, but still
not fully understand.

Can anyone have a simple example with the source code, I just want to see
how the coding look like if we are going to consume a web service with an
input parameter and output result set in xml format.

Thanks in advance for your help.
