Re: Not a valid FTP reply line!

Sender: Scott Klement <sk@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

I guess it could be a CCSID issue. FTPAPI is expecting that the first 3 characters it receives from the FTP server will be the ASCII characters 220. It uses the translation table (CCSID setting) to translate the ASCII characters (x'323230') to the EBCDIC characters (x'F2F2F0').

The problem is that the first 3 charcters it receives are not translating
to x'F2F2F0'. This could be caused by a CCSID problem, but it could also
be caused by a non-standard FTP server that doesn't send 220 like it
should.

Hard to say, since there's no information in your job log. But maybe this'll help you figure out what to do...

Hi Scott,

The job log only shows:

0: FTPAPI version 2.1beta1 released on 2005-02-19
Not a valid FTP reply line!

It seems like it fails at the login step.
The FTP log is created with line only and is not readable due to some
CCSID problems.

Is this issue related to CCSID?

For CCSID 937 37 is O.K.

Please turn logging on with:

callp FTP_log(*ON)

Then run your program again. Your job log will contain diagnostic
information about the FTP session. Please post the contents of your job
log to this forum so we can see what type of reply line it's complaining
about.

Thanks

I run the same program in two different i5 520 partitions, one is O.K, another one gets the above message.

How could I resolve this problem?
